Lois Weinberger, "Berlin Marzahn" (1994-1995) and "Gartenarchiv" (1988-1999)
Photograph, 624 Slides on light table
Formerly part of East Berlin, this barren
landscape comprised of trash and weeds is in
Berlin-Marzahn, near where a labour camp was
set up in 1936 for gypsies removed from the
landscape during the Olympics. The 624 slides
comprising "Gartenarchiv" keep alive the biodiversity
of Lois Weinberger's original plant collection,
which he voluntarily dismantled after eleven
years.
